WHAT WE BELIEVE:
THE BIBLE
We believe the Bible is God’s Word and is without error in the original writings. It’s true and trustworthy. It is the ultimate authority for what we should believe and how we should live. (Psalm 19:7-11; Matthew 5:17- 19; II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:19-21)
GOD
We believe there’s one true and living God, alone worthy of worship. He exists in three Persons: the Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 3:16-17; 28:19; Ephesians 4:4-6)
THE FATHER
We believe God the Father is the ultimate ruler of the universe. He is sovereign over lives and our world. He is holy, all-wise, all-powerful, and all-loving. (Exodus 34:6-7; I Chronicles 29:11-12; John 14:26; 15:26; I John 2:1)
JESUS
We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is fully God and fully human. He was miraculously born to a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross to pay for our sins, was buried, and rose from the dead. He ascended back into heaven, and there He is interceding for His people. One day, He will return to Earth. (Isaiah 53; John 1:1-18; I Corinthians 15:3-4; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:15-20; I John 2:1-2)
THE SPIRIT
We believe God the Holy Spirit carries out the Father’s will and gives glory to the Son. He convicts us of our sin and need for a Savior. When we place faith in Jesus, the Spirit miraculously makes us new; He lives inside us, enabling us to live godly lives, and equipping us with gifts for ministry. (Genesis 1:1-2; John 16:7-15; Romans 8:1-27; I Corinthians 12:1-11; Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 1:13-14)
HUMANS
We believe that every human being is created in the image of God to glorify and enjoy Him forever. All human life is sacred and valuable from the moment of conception. Every human being should be treated with love, kindness, compassion, respect, and dignity. (Genesis 1:26-31; Psalm 8; Psalm 139; Mark 12:28- 31; Luke 6:31-36)
SIN
We believe that our first parents were created holy and upright, that they fell from this condition when they gave into Satan’s temptation and turned away from God, bringing evil into the world. As a consequence all people are born into this sinful condition, separated from God and in need of His rescuing grace. (Genesis 3:1-24; Romans 3:10-20; Romans 5:12-14)
SALVATION
We believe that we are saved from sin not because we deserve it or earn it but because of God’s graciousness to us! We receive His saving grace by putting our faith in Jesus Christ. Though we deserve to be punished for our sins, Jesus took that punishment for us on the cross so that we could be forgiven. He defeated death through His resurrection. When we believe in Him, we are given a new life to do good works; we become part of God’s family, and He will never disown us! (Isaiah 53:4-6; John 3:16-18; Romans 6:23; 8:38-39; I Corinthians 15:1-4; Ephesians 2:1-10; I Peter 2:24)
ETERNITY
We believe that Jesus Christ will one day return to Earth. Those who trust Jesus Christ for salvation will glorify and enjoy God now and forever. Those who refuse to put their trust in Jesus Christ will spend eternity in hell, separated from God. (Romans 3:21-26; 5:15-21; Revelation 19:1-16; Revelation 20:11-15)
THE CHURCH
We believe that Jesus is the Head of the Church, a global community of all those who put their faith in Him. Individual churches are local expressions of this wider community. In local churches, followers of Jesus gather to worship together, receive instruction, build relationships, serve each other, and reach out to others. The mission of a local church is to make disciples of Jesus in its own region and beyond. At Quincy Community Church we baptize by immersion those who profess faith in Jesus, and we celebrate the Lord’s supper together the first Sunday of every month. (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:41- 47; I Corinthians 11:23- 26; Ephesians 4:11-16; Hebrews 10:19-25)
