About Edawna . . .On Valentine's Day 2024 our family was hit with quite the shock. Edawna McQuade, our 19 year old daughter, was diagnosed with Moyamoya - a brain disorder that causes strokes and seizures. We are so very thankful to the doctors and nursing staff at Plumas District Hospital and at Renown who worked tirelessly to figure out what was going on. Edawna has a long road ahead of her as she will be needing brain surgery in the very near future. For now we are getting to know the doctors at Stanford who will be performing the surgery needed to repair Edawna's brain. This surgery will require that both Edawna and her mother take a total of three weeks off work and school with an additional 3 weeks following for Edawna's recovery. We anticipate a financial loss of $6,000 plus all the food and lodging for the duration of her surgery. We are beyond thankful grateful for all of the love, support, and prayer from our church family, friends, and. relatives. We will keep you posted on her progress and recovery process.
He pitches, we swing! Sincerely the Sturley McQuade Satterlee clan. |
NOTE: This page will continually be updated with the most recent news and information regarding Edawna's health and progress towards getting surgery and treatment.
Updates:
- Edawna has an appointment scheduled at Stanford for March 25th.
- Edawna had her appointment at Stanford on Monday, March 25th. She needs one new medication due to low blood pressure and her blood pressure needs to be monitored. The scheduling department will be contacting the family within 3 weeks. Edawna will need two surgeries one on each side of her brain - Each side within a few days of each other. Andrea will need to stay there during that time.
- Edawna & Andrea headed to Stanford on April 18th for Edawna to get an MRI and Cerebral Angiogram. After that Dr. Steinburg and his team will evaluate & discuss the results. Then Dr. Steinburg will decide when Edawna will receive brain surgery. Surgery could be scheduled as soon as the end of the month or beginning of May. The family is requesting and deeply appreciates all the prayers and for peace that passes through all of this as well as for miraculous healing for Edawna. Also please pray for God to guide Dr. Steinburg as he cares for Edawna.
- On 4-18 Mike Andrea and Edawna headed on down to Stanford's neurology center in Palo Alto for Edawna's MRI on day one and cerebral angiogram the morning of day two. In the long run all went well.
Day one: MRI went very well no hiccups.
Day two: cerebral angiogram. This day did not go as planned. Procedure was scheduled for 8:40 a.m. However due to two separate emergency cases that took precedence over Edawna's case. Her procedure was pushed until just after 5:00 p.m. with recovery time taking 6 hours, we didn't leave the hospital until midnight. This required another night stay. The blessing in this is we got to spend a little time walking the beach before heading home. Now that we're home and Edawna is resting and taking care. She's been ordered to take it easy, & no lifting over 5 lb until this coming Friday. She seems to be recovering quickly.
What happens next?: Dr Steinberg is to review the test results with his team. They will then come up with a plan and let us know how soon we should move forward with Edawna's two brain surgeries. Aiming for beginning of may. This final step is the most difficult daunting for us all to say the least but especially for Edawna. We lean heavily on the fact that our Heavenly Father Has us all in his loving hands. We thank you all for the love, prayers, and financial help in such a difficult time. Please keep those prayers coming! We can see and feel God working miracles each and every day.
With love, the Sturley McQuade Satterlee clan. - Edawna's surgeries are scheduled for the 22nd & 29th of May. She then has to stay for another week of recovery to make sure there are no complications. Please be in prayer for all of this!!!
- UPDATE on Sunday, May 26th, 2024: Hello friends! Edawna's first surgery went very well. No hiccups. The very same day she was already on her cell phone with friends texting and making short videos. Dr Steinberg was most impressed! Recovery has been a little tricky. Her heart rate was very low the first two nights after surgery. After some changes to her medication she improved a great deal! She was released from ICU on Friday afternoon. She was able to walk on her own unassisted. The pain has been very difficult for her and due to her pain meds she occasionally has difficulty speaking. This is very frustrating for her. On Saturday we went for a short walk around our building floor and she did well. However, she is learning to not overdo it. Her body is working very hard on healing. This morning (Sunday) she's out of bed and we're enjoying some time outside on the deck preparing for the next step. Thank you so very much for your continued prayers and support. The Lord is moving every moment of every day and He is so very good! Love the Sturley McQuade Satterlee clan
- UPDATE on Monday, May 27th, 2024: 🌺 Friends please pray for Edawna. 🙌🏼
She has been re-admitted to Stanford. Due to slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, dehydration and severe headache. CT scan good. Probably due to surgical swelling. Sometimes seen with Moyamoya surgical patients. At 19 Edawna is of course upset in this slight set-back. - UPDATE on Thursday, June 13th, 2024: Hello friends! God is so very good!! Edawna's second surgery went very well! She woke speaking & in a manageable amount of pain. She is now released from the hospital & is as sharp as a tac! Dr Steinberg said her blood flow to this side was down to just 10 percent! With proper blood flow her brain is working faster than ever! Look out world!!❤️
Above & beyond thankful for the good Lord's provision, guidance, & protection through all of this. And thank you all for your Love, Prayers, & Support! Without it all this never would have been possible!
We Love You All!
As He pitches, we swing!!❤️🙏 - UPDATE on Wednesday, June 19th, 2024: We are home!! All went well with MRI & post op visit! They were shocked at how well Edawna is doing! Give God the glory! We had a nice drive home despite traffic holding us up for an extra two hours. Edawna did great! Medications & blood pressure management on the side of the road & all. Edawna can go back to work in 30 days & needs to have blood drawn once a week to monitor her potassium levels. (One of her medications lowers ones potassium levels) she will have to take a total of seven different medications that she will prayerfully be able to decrease within the next 12 months. Please continue to pray for her healing process, the Lord has got us & He's holding on tight!❤️
At the start of all of this Edawna was saying how scared she was of what's to come. I said, "The good Lord has freed us from Egypt! He's not just going to leave us out in the desert!" At the time this didn't make much sense to her. She told me today that, she feels she now has double the testimony!
I will never be able to say this enough, Thanks be to God!!
We love you All!!
